Preserving the Art of Central Valley Armenian Home Cooking

Armenian Home Cooking with Zee

Armenian Home Cooking with Zee is a project to preserve and promote the art of Central Valley Armenian Home Cooking. It is sponsored by The Alliance for California Traditional Arts, with generous funding from The National Endowment for the Arts, the Walter and Elyse Haas Fund, and the William and Flora Hewlett Foundation, with additional support from the California Arts Council, and from the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors through the Los Angeles County Arts Commission.

I was introduced to Zarouhie (Zee) Bedrossian by my mom’s first cousins, and I am honored to have been selected by ACTA to Apprentice Central Valley Armenian Home Cooking under Zee. My goal to learn the home-prepared, traditional dishes that simply cannot be bought commercially in the 15+ Armenian bakeries, delis, and restaurants in Fresno, CA — and believe me when I say that I have scoured them all!

Zee’s recipes live in her mind, hands, and heart. These dishes must be taught and cooked and documented if they are to survive the test of time.
